Before you run Genesis R&D Supplements on a Mac, you will have to make some modifications. There are two options for installing and running Genesis R&D on a Mac:
Cloud-hosted online subscription
To access the program, you would launch the application from a website instead of installing the software locally on your computer. Note: This requires the use of Microsoft RDP, which has its own system requirements. Check the information listed in the Mac App Store for Microsoft Remote Desktop.
1. Follow the Mac setup instructions for @eshacloud logins (typically usernames end with @eshacloud.com) here: https://esharesearch.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CloudSupport/pages/543391763/Setup+for+Mac
If you are adding a new user to an existing account, or have an older account you have not set up, see these instructions instead: https://cloud.esha.com/rdweb/misc/Mac_OS_X.html (If you were given an email address as your username or you log in at cloud.esha.com, you have an older account.) |
2. When you have finished, use the username and a password you were given when your Cloud account was set up to access Genesis R&D.
Desktop Install
If you would prefer to purchase (or already own) the desktop (installed) version of Genesis R&D, you must have a PC emulator, which allows you to run Windows simultaneously with Mac OS X.
- Purchase and install Windows 7 or later.
- Purchase and install one of the following
- Boot Camp http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
This software is included in Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard" and Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" and makes it easy to install Windows on any Mac with an Intel processor. As a "dual-boot" solution, when you start your computer, you have the choice of launching either Mac OS X or Windows.
This solution is suitable for two kinds of people: (1) those who want to run Windows exclusively and want to do so on Apple hardware or (2) those who want to run Windows applications occasionally and do not mind restarting their computer to switch to a different operating system. - Virtualization software
Parallels Desktop http://www.parallels.com/products/desktop/
VMware Fusion http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/
VirtualBox http://www.virtualbox.org/
These are types of "virtualization" software, which allow you to run Windows simultaneously with Mac OS X. In general, Windows runs as another application in its own window. There is some communication between the two operating systems (e.g., copy and paste, mounting an OS X folder as a Windows drive letter). Unlike with Boot Camp, where the system requirements are no different from what you would otherwise need to run each operating system, with virtualization software you need decent system resources if you want reasonable performance. This solution is suitable for people who want to run Mac OS X and Windows simultaneously and have the system resources to do so effectively.
3. When you have finished setting up Boot Camp or virtualization software, run the Genesis R&D installation instructions here.
